A new research has revealed that men who are hard hit by gambling addiction will tend to handle it differently from their female counterparts who have the same degree of the gambling problem.
The study that was recently published in one of the reputable gambling studies journals conceded that both genders are susceptible to gambling problems.
However, the researchers, a section of the University of Adelaide, who centered their research on casino industry, say that when it reaches a point that a gambler has been addicted; each sex deals with the vice differently.
In part, the research points, out that when a female bettor enters a casino and unfortunately loses as is the case in most cases. Notice without a word that she lost, which is however very different with the male gender who even after losing terribly, would try to conceal it to anyone around them including very close friends whom the man came. The man will never reveal his failure to his family and girlfriends if any for that will be a show of failure.
The research that was carried out by two other institutions apart from the University of Adelaide indicates that by women accepting even without a word, is the beginning of recovery from gambling problem especially when she has used quite a fortune, which she can now never get back.
The other two institutions are Swinburne University in Australia and AGRC, the gambling research center in Australia.
Anna Thomas, the AGRC Manager, says that after losing, any keen person will realize changes on both genders.
“You can notice distress signs on women gamblers who lose much money or on a game they actively thought they would win whereas aggression and anger signs will project themselves from the male gender,” said Anna.
The research that was done recently involved data that looked into some 1185 gamblers who placed their luck on slot machines.
Of these, there were 605 women and 580 men. In the end, the research found out that 338 cases showed traits that are commonly associated with those gamblers who have problem gambling issues.
The study revealed one simple fact: a man will be affected by gambling just as a woman would. Additionally, both will show signs of problem gambling. The difference, however, is how the man will show the signs and what signs to show that are different from a woman’s.
Another interesting thing that came out from the study is that when addiction has hit its highest in women, they will not hesitate from crying in public or show any sign of sadness in a more open way.
On their part, however, men gamblers who have lost quite a lot of money or a game they had earlier mentioned more than once to their friends that they will win are likely to kick the online slot machine, hit the poker table, be aggressive or even be entirely rude to the casino staff.
That explains why a lone attacker in Manila, Philippines shot ATMs, slot machines, and gaming tables inside Resorts World Casino. The man set the tables on fire killing 37 innocent people and later killed himself.
