Over the past few years, most of the news coming out of the coastal gambling town Atlantic City had to do with casinos shutting their doors. It had been bleeding real money gambling business for several years due to increased competition from neighboring states. A rebirth of one of the original casino gambling attractions on the East Coast is in the works with the opening of two brand new real money gambling venues.
When Are Ocean Resort and Hard Rock Atlantic City Casinos Opening?
According to CasinoFetch.com in a recent post, the Ocean Resort Casino and Hard Rock Atlantic City are each planning to open their doors to the betting public on June 28. While officials at Ocean Resort did not confirm this date, several new employees told The Press of Atlantic City that this was the current plan in place.
CEO Frank Leone was quoted as telling the local paper, “The Ocean Resort Casino team is committed to opening this summer and looks forward to announcing its highly anticipated opening the date soon.”
The Press went on to add that multiple employees confirmed that their start date is June 11. They also added that this was in anticipation of officially opening the doors on that targeted June 28 date.
Originally built as the Revel Casino at the cost of $2.4 billion, Florida developer Glenn Straub acquired the property for $82 million in 2015 as part of its bankruptcy proceedings. The Revel first opened for business in Atlantic City in 2012. CasinoFetch.com also stated that Straub flipped the property for $200 million this past January in a sale to Bruce Deifik. He is the principal owner of Integrated Properties based in Colorado. The report also mentioned that from 2014 to 2016 five different New Jersey casinos ceased operations.
Official New Jersey Casino Opening Date?
The official start of the summer beach season on June 21 could be perfect timing for the renewed interest in this New Jersey coastal resort. The details surrounding Ocean Resorts’ grand opening plans are still rather scarce since that June 28 date has yet to be confirmed. However, a few blocks south of Atlantic City’s famed Boardwalk the plans for the new Hard Rock is in full force.
The Old Trump Taj Mahal In Atlantic City
The former Trump Taj Mahal has undergone a $500 million-dollar makeover. Hard Rock Atlantic City will be looking to stake its claim as the premier entertainment venue in town, with less of an emphasis on real money casino gambling. Company CEO Jim Allen has already stated that the resort would focus on entertainment, not gaming with plans in place for over 60 concerts featuring musical performers such as Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line and Kid Rock.
