You know, among U.S. states, Pennsylvania is second only to Nevada in commercial casino revenue. And now, they’re looking to expand. They succeeded in auctioning only five of their ten licenses for mini-casinos in a previous round; they’ll now try to auction the other five. Here’s the catch – they can’t be within 40 miles of any other casino location. That leaves out anything around Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
These licenses DO permit up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games, not to mention online sports betting. The price? $7.5 million to apply. The auctions get underway on September 4.
Meanwhile in this gambling podcast, the first online casino platforms in Pennsylvania are about to launch, and at least three of them are expected to be functioning 24 hours a day within a week. Slots, table games, and poker will be offered.
In all, twelve operators have filed for online casino licenses. Online sports betting, through an app, is already in place in the Keystone State.
