Plans are in the works to unveil the 130,000 square-foot canopy as a way to ring in the New Year. Workers continue to install the final lighted panels as part of this $32 million project. The goal is to provide a brighter and sharper display of lights for visiting tourists. If this was not a major attraction before, it is sure to be one now.

The Fremont Street Experience has also been referred to as the downtown’s entertainment district. The Viva Vision Canopy puts an exclamation on that point. This is a 1,500-foot long arch with the world’s largest video display. It hangs above pedestrians walking the street with entertaining daily light shows.

Watchfire Signs was the company behind the design and production of the new digital screens. Located in Danville, Ill, the final truckload of signs arrived in Las Vegas. All told, it took 59 truckloads of signs to complete the project.

A Watchfire press release said that the company created the signs to meet the needs of the Fremont Street Experience. This includes covering the 130,000 square feet of curved space. There were 1,054 subframes holding 64 separate modules of LED lights. Each subframe was designed to fit a section of the canopy. Along with the production of the lighted screens, a specialized delivery system catered to the installation process.

Steve Harriott is the president and CEO of Watchfire Signs added, “Interest in this product has been very high. And we’re looking forward to using it for other projects.”
