Arizona Casino Payout Dispute Lingers On
Every real money gambler dreams of hitting it big when they walk through the doors of a casino resort. They also expect to walk out those same doors with a big, fat check when Lady Luck does shine their way. According to a recent post by Nicole Valdes on an Arizona ABC affiliate site www.abc15.com that was not the case for an area Scottsdale man.

Ryan Sherry probably had dreams of hitting a big jackpot when he was playing slots at Talking Stick Resort back April after putting a $100 bill into a machine. A few turns into his session he thought that dream had come true with a spin that revealed three red double 7’s on the screen. Going by a payout chart located near the machine, Sherry thought the jackpot he hit was for $50,000. It is easy understand the confusion when he cashed out and only received a grand total of $4000.

Arizona Casino Offers No Payouts On Slot Machine Winnings?

When he questioned a casino manager on issue, he was told that the $4000 payout for that particular combination was correct. Still confused over matter, Sherry then went to officials for the tribal government. He wrote a letter that also included a photo of the machine with the display of the winning combination. He was quoted as asking, “Why is this not $50,000. Look at all the numbers, all the colors match, why is it not $50,000?”

The dispute with the tribe went back and forth for months. The only explanation that Sherry received was that one of bulbs in the machine was out and this made an orange seven appear to be red. Upon hearing this, his next question was why a machine that was not in proper working order was still on the floor without being fixed?

Sherry relayed a reply from the tribe to the letter he sent as follows, “It doesn’t have to come off the floor. Doesn’t matter as long as long as the algorithm that we can’t see is paying properly.”

Talking Stick officials defended their stance by stating that the machine in question was in proper working order. The algorithm in the machine paid out the proper amount based on the combination that did come up on the winning spin. They maintained this stance despite the fact that Sherry could not tell that one of the bulbs was burned out.

The Resort Offers The Man Free Beer But No Money?

Casino management held firm on their stance and Sherry told the local ABC station that the only added compensation he was offered in the matter was free beer. He was quoted as saying, “He goes, the machine is supposed to be paying what it is paying out” when asked what one of the managers told him. He added, “Do you want the money or not? So, it’s either collect your money, or you can leave.”
The dispute has now dragged on for over six months and Sherry is no closer to collecting the extra $46,000 then he was the day this whole ordeal began. His next option would be to take the matter to tribal court, but his confidence in a favorable resolution was not all that high.
