In Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season, there was a bit of late-game drama in a number of games, including those between Minnesota (2-3 SU, 2-3 ATS) and Carolina (3-2, 3-2). However, it was only the Vikings who emerged as winners. The Panthers will be looking to rebound in their second consecutive home contest.
Minnesota Vikings vs Carolina Panthers Betting Odds & Line Movement
Christian McCaffrey is trending toward a return in this one, and it’s easy to see why the Carolina Panthers are considered slight favorites at home. With Christian McCaffrey available, Carolina has lost both of his games missed this season. The Vikings were about to lose at home. But they did not. The Lions are now 0-5, so it does not look good for them.
Notes On The Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are a .500 club at best. There’s no doubting that going 2-1 in a three-game home stretch is good, but the Vikings haven’t been convincing this season.
Before their narrow victory over Detroit, there were reports that the job security of head coach Mike Zimmer was in jeopardy. For the time being, it appears that kicker Greg Joseph has saved his job.
Dalvin Cook was injured in the second quarter of Monday’s game, and Mattison filled in admirably, carrying the ball 25 times for 113 yards. Although there is some hope that Cook may return in Week 6, the Vikings’ Week 7 bye provides them with an opportunity to rest him.
With Stefon Diggs out indefinitely, the Vikings’ passing game looks to be in good hands with Adam Thielen and Kyle Rudolph working together. But it appears that Minnesota’s offense and defense never play on the same day. If the Vikings can figure out a way to make it happen, they’ll be a difficult opponent to face.
Notes On The Carolina Panthers
In Week 5, McCaffrey was a game-time decision after receiving limited practice reps before Carolina’s game against Philadelphia, suggesting he’ll be ready to play in Week 6 with more time to prepare. Despite Chuba Hubbard’s 101-yard performance against the Eagles, McCaffrey’s agility cannot be replaced.
When Christian McCaffrey is out, Sam Darnold’s performance drops significantly. In their loss to the Eagles, Darnlish had three interceptions and struggled mightily. The Panthers’ schedule looks favorable. After the Vikings, they face the Giants, Falcons, and Patriots, giving Carolina a chance to compete with Tampa Bay for first place in the NFC South.
Even if the Bucs don’t fall apart, the Panthers should be in position for a wild-card spot. They must first cure a two-game skid before getting ahead of themselves.
Can The Notes On The Minnesota Vikings Cover The Pointspread?
With the Bears looking competent and the Packers winning four straight games, the Vikings can’t afford to fall behind in the NFC North. It’ll be tough for them to travel and be productive in this one, having only played home games thus far. The Vikings must hope for a high-scoring engagement with Dalvin Cook at the helm.

With McCaffrey on the field, this crew is a different beast. Throughout the week, all of attention will be on the injury reports. McCaffrey lifts everyone around him, and his return will only help Darnold play better. Expect the Panthers to resemble their early-season selves in this game.
