The Oklahoma City Thunder (1-5 SU, 2-4 ATS) come to Los Angeles to face the Clippers (1-4, 2-3) Monday night, with both teams on the ropes. The Clippers will seek to snap a two-game losing skid, while the Thunder will aim to bounce back from their loss on Saturday to the Golden State Warriors.
The Thunder, on the other hand, opened as 11-point home favorites against the Los Angeles Clippers at BetOnline Sportsbook. The total was set at 214 points, with the UNDER going 6-4 in the previous 10 meetings between these two teams.
The Thunder were expected to be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season, and they’ve certainly delivered on that promise. Their offense (97.2 points per game) ranks 29th in the league while their defense (111.7 points allowed per game) isn’t any better, ranking 21st.
In their previous game, the Bobcats were pounded by the Warriors by a score of 103-82 – their worst offensive showing of the season, thanks to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 15 points. After a slow start to the season, Oklahoma City’s Wall is heating up as the calendar nears towards March. With no supporting cast around him, George Hill leads the Thunder in scoring with 18 points per game.
The Clippers have been ineffective without Kawhi Leonard, who is out indefinitely following offseason knee surgery. Paul George has stepped up his game, averaging 27.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.4 steals in the team’s first five games, but it hasn’t been enough to get them through yet.
The Los Angeles Lakers have lost their last two games, including a 112-91 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. The most recent loss, which was a microcosum of the entire season, saw George score 42 points while Kennard scored 16.
Serge Ibaka (back) and Marcus Morris (knee) are also unavailable for Monday’s game.
The Lakers have stumbled out of the blocks, leaving Oklahoma City with a chance to notch a rare victory. It’s obviously a long shot, but if Gilgeous-Alexander can score 30 points and the defense can at least somewhat defend George, the Thunder have a fighting chance to cover the spread.
George will show up – and this may be enough to overcome the Thunder – but it would be great if he got some help. The Clippers defense has been effective at 104.8 points allowed per game (11th), and it’ll look even stronger against a poor Thunder offense.
