Throughout 2016, all casinos in Massachusetts had a rough time. Although the legalization of gambling centers in the state was effective 5 years ago, not much has been realized.
In fact, not a lot has been made from the real money casino gambling sites in the region, with a single gambling complex in operational. This is even as the law gave an order for the operation of at least 3 gaming facilities in distinct regions allowing gamers to enjoy their favorite sport.
There is also a parlor that hosts a single slot, which opened its doors to the public just two years ago in mid 2015. Plainridge Park Casino, acts as a relieve point for those who want to quench gambling thirst in Massachusetts, but it is not enough to serve the entire population in the region especially those who love gambling.
According to the Expanded Gaming Act revised by the state, the three other gaming companies that were authorized to operate are yet to complete their establishments. Wynn Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield are on with their construction of their respective gaming complexes. Word has it that the construction may stretch a while longer-to somewhere 2018. The other resort’s gaming license is not yet confirmed. That means the state will still have to wait for at least one year before her gamers get to enjoy their favorite sport.
Still A long Hold
Although the construction of MGM Springfield, which is worth $950 million, is going on as planned, Wynn Boston Harbor is faced with a difficult scenario with legal battles over a long period, something that has been known to delay its completion.
The main legal battle has been that by Joseph Curtatone, the Somerville Major who raised the legal dispute challenging the issuance of the operational permit awarded to the resort with regard to environmental permit.

Before the Environmental Protection Department of the state, Curtatone asserted that with the casino’s high traffic, there would be pollution, which in the end would negatively affect people living in his region.
In a quick rejoinder, Steve maintained that Joseph was only looking for ways to get monetary gain from the casino that had agreed to pay a levy of $2 million every year for a period of 15 years to the city, but $650, 000 per year to Somerville.
Although the litigation affected the casino, DEP approved the casino and awarded the resort the awaited license after three years.
The southern part is yet to get itself out of the hook if the case involving Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is settled. According to a district judge, it was illegal to approve the construction of a $1 billion gaming complex in Taunton.
Racing Harnessed in Plainridge
Plainridge slots parlor stands out as the only parlor in entire Massachusetts to harness racing. Because of this alone, the resort received $9 million from the Penn National Gaming.
At this, Steve O’Toole, Plainridge Park General Manager said, “We’re so happy. We are really excited because we’ve been able to attract horses of high quality, which race even bigger purses.”
