Upstate New York’s fourth casino will now be called Resorts World Catskill. The NY casino that has been referred using the construction name has changed to a name that it will be called once it is open to the public that is scheduled for early 2018.
For the time the casino has been in construction, although work is still on, the gaming facility has been referred to as Montereign Resort Casino.
Investors expect the completion of the casino shortly; the investor would have used more to $1 billion.
Malaysian gaming company and Empire Resorts owns Resorts World Catskill Casino. These two gaming giants are also the operator of Monticello Raceway, which is not far from the current Resorts World Catskills. However, much of the operations in the Monticello Raceway has been controlled by Genting since 2009.
In a press statement, Empire Resorts Casino Chair Emanuel Pearlman confirmed that that the company is so much excited and eager to associate the name of the casino with Catskills.
All the four gaming projects are part of the comprehensive program that will finally see the realization of bringing back the almost lost glory of Catskills.
The Catskills area has for a long time been associated with gambling activities, which the joint venture is seeking to reestablish.
“When people hear of Resorts World Catskills will always remind them of the almost lost glory that has always been associated with the Catskills region thus bringing back the real allure the region deserves,” Pearlman said.
Emmanuel went on to say that upon completion, all the projects will make the area known to the rest of the outside world.
“These projects will not only be known locally but also bring the value and glory of Catskills across the U.S and to the rest of the international market. That will bring revenue to the Catskills region,” Pearlman added.
Almost Lost Glory
The Catskills region has a long, rich history. During the 1920s stretching to mid-40s and 50s, through to the 70s, the neighborhood was very popular. Of interest was the popularity the area had to different communities who traveled from distant places to do business and to enjoy their holiday vacations from the then available social amenities. It was from their regular visits to the region that Catskills has the nickname ‘The Borscht Belt.’
The glory of Catskills started dwindling at the end of the 1970s and early 80s. When Jenifer Grey and Patrick Swayze were doing their ‘Dirty Dancing’ the beauty and glamor that used to be associated with Catskills were long gone.
Perhaps, one of the primary reasons for the loss Catskills glory was the introduction of cheap and affordable air travel as well as new holiday vacations that offered excellent packages to more sophisticated places.
Today, when you walk throughout Catskills, it is easy to realize that many structures are left desolate. A few that are now being reclaimed are resurfacing from where either there has never been any establishment or on top of a shuttered building.
Resorts World Catskills casino, for instance, is established right at the very site where Concord Hotel once sat in the 50s.
