A New Mini Casino to be Developed in Pennsylvania

Interestingly, a new casino will open in Cumberland County. More precisely, the new facility will be set at former Lowe’s in the Shippen Town Center in the Shippensburg borough. On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board voted to award the Category 4 casino license to GW Cumberland Op. Co. Moreover, the decision was unanimous. Additionally, it allows the license holder to proceed with its plans to build a mini casino in this area.

Owns And Operates Parx Casino In PA

Indeed, Gw Cumberland is a subsidiary of Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment, Inc. Furthermore,  it is already involved in the gaming industry in the state. The company owns and operates the Parx Casino in Bensalem, the largest establishment of its kind in Pennsylvania.

Above all, obtaining a Category 4 casino license means that the operator can have between 300 and 750 slot machines set at the casino. Furthermore, there’s also an option for a license holder to petition for additional 30 games. In this case, the operator has to pay an additional fee of $2.5 million but with it. However,  it allows them to add another 10 table games. However, this is when the first year of operation expires.

Shippensburg Casino Is Four Years in the Making

The mini casino in Shippensburg has been in the works for quite some time. GW Cumberland has been developing the project for the past four years. Eventually, the company secured the rights to locate and build a new Category 4 casino with an $8.1 million bid. The winning bid allowed them to acquire the fourth of the five available mini-casino licenses.

Former Lowe’s Home Supply Store To Turn Into Mini PA Casino?

The business identified the Cumberland County location as the site for the new casino in 2019. The county is best knowns as the home of one of the Pennsylvania state universities, Shippensburg University located in the town of the same name. Indeed, the town will also be home to the new casino in PA. Furthermore, you can find them in the Shippen Town Center. Currently, this is the former Lowe’s Home Supply store.

Indeed, Parx Casino Shippensburg will occupy 73,000-square-foot of space in the facility, At first, it’s expected to feature 500 slot machines.  Electronic tables, and a sports bar and restaurant.

Gambling Revenue Can Boost  The Local PA Economy

Besides providing a new gaming space in the area, the new mini casino will also significantly help the local economy. Furthermore, the construction of the casino itself is expected to create 175 new jobs. Once the PA casino is up and running, it’s expected to provide 125 full-time jobs.

Indeed, it  provides another source of taxable revenue for the state. According to the state’s gaming commission, the numbers look great.   Moreover, let’s combine gaming and fantasy sports revenue.  Just in November, the revenue is  $432,493,349. Furthermore, it’s a record so far and a 52% increase over the same period last year.

So, will everything go as planned? If so,  the new casino in PA will be open its doors to players near the end of 2022.
