Online Betting, but with Limitations
For now, live betting in South Mississippi is only possible if you’re physically present inside of Beau Rivage Casino. The casino uses geofencing technology to secure the legality of betting and make sure the whole online operation is in compliance with state’s laws on gambling. This way, bettors can place their wagers only within the specified area. For example, placing a bet on the app while at the casino’s parking garage is not possible.
These limitations defeat the purpose of online betting to some extent. However, industry experts are convinced that the current situation may be enough to prove to convince the state legislators that the full legalization of online sports betting is the right move. That’s the view shared by the majority of local gamblers who are for now happy to even have the opportunity to place their wagers online. They’re delighted to see the industry making progress in this area.
Speaking to the media after the launch of the new app, one of the casino’s frequent visitors described it as the first domino to fall. He believes that the casinos are thrilled with the new opportunities online betting will bring tho then and to the bettors.
Both the casinos and the bettors are convinced that the online betting restriction will loosen up in the future. It’s very likely that it will happen at the next assembly of the Magnolia State’s legislature in 2022.
