Oregon State’s quest to win a national title started with an unlikely Pac-12 Tournament Championship. The Beavers were able to upset the favored Oregon Ducks in the conference tournament semifinals. A 70-68 unexpected victory over Colorado in the tournament’s championship game earned Oregon State an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
As the No. 12 seed in the Midwest Region, Oregon State’s March Madness betting tournament run includes victories against Tennessee and Oklahoma Sate as a solid underdog in each game. The biggest upset came on Saturday night against Loyola Chicago. The Beavers ended up as seven-point underdogs in the 65-58 victory.
Heading into Monday night’s Elite 8 matchup against Houston, the Beavers’ current winning streak stands at six games both straight-up and against the spread. They are 7.5-point underdogs in that matchup to keep this amazing run alive. Houston is the No. 2 seed in this region.
Oregon State started this basketball season as a heavy longshot to win the Pac-12. Heading into the postseason conference tournament, it was just 10-10 in the Pac-12 standings. The current six-game run began with an 83-79 upset over UCLA, which is another surprising Pac-12 team in the Elite 8.
Following the opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, Oregon State’s future odds to win the national title were set at +5000. Among the 16 remaining teams, only Syracuse (+6000) and Oral Roberts (+100000) had longer odds to win.
Immediately after Saturday’s Sweet 16 win, those odds dropped to +1400. Sunday’s four tournament games completed the field for the Elite 8.
Oregon State’s Monday night opponent Houston is favored to represent the Midwest Region in the Final Four. A win in this game would be the Beavers’ biggest shocker in this amazing run. The Cougars opened this tournament as a legitimate national title contender.

Monday’s other Elite 8 matchup pits the SEC’s No.3 Arkansas Razorbacks against the No. 1 Baylor Bears. The Bears were the top seed in the South Region after winning the Big 12 regular season title. Baylor has been opened a 7.5-point favorite to win and advance on.
The two other Elite 8 showdowns on Tuesday start with the No. 6 USC Trojans facing the No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs. USC joins Oregon State and UCLA as a trio of Pac-12 teams in the Elite 8. Gonzaga was the overall No. 1 seed in this tournament following an undefeated run through the regular season. The Bulldogs also won the West Coast Conference Tournament. They are favored by nine points against USC.
Three of the No. 1 seeds still remain in the running for a national title. However, this year’s tournament has been filled with major upsets. The Big Ten only has Michigan as its lone representative. This was regarded as the strongest major conference this season.
