Taking a trip on your own can be a daunting as well as exciting task. Proper planning is important and so is the destination. A quiet weekend at the beach offers rest and relaxation. A trip to the gambling capital of the world might get a bit more involved. They do not call Las Vegas ‘Sin City’ for no reason.
The topic of traveling to Las Vegas on your own was explored. Written by Lucy Handley, her perspective came from a recent five-day trip as part of a business conference.
Single female visitors constitutes a very small percentage of the estimated 42 million tourists that blow into town every year. Guys traveling alone to Las Vegas may have an entirely different agenda. However, things to do for any single traveler creates an almost endless list.
A few useful travel statistics to put things in further perspective include:
- In 2018, the average tourist group size was 2.2
- That same year, 80 percent of travelers were from the US.
These figures were provided by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Ms. Handley is from Britain to really put herself into the minority. None the less, she was able to keep herself busy amid all the attractions (and distractions).
The best way to experience the Las Vegas Strip might be with a tour guide or local taxi driver. An interesting was is to go out on a jog. Getting around the Strip on foot involves traversing multiple escalators and pedestrian bridges. You will also encounter slow moving tourist groups stopping to take pictures at every turn. Moving about by yourself does give you the flexibility to cover some serious ground.
The various sights and sounds of the Las Vegas Strip is an attraction of its own. Walking (or jogging) around early in the morning, you are guaranteed to come across some revelers just calling it a night. That experience alone is worth the price of admission.
One of the best areas of town to get that old-school Las Vegas vibe is the downtown area. This features one of the most iconic areas of town simply known as the Freemont Street Experience. Travelling alone to this area late at night is not recommended, especially as a single women. However, during the day it becomes a rather fun place to hang out.
One Fremont Street attraction is the Heart Attack Grill. Its noteworthy marketing gimmick is allowing guests 350 pounds or heavier to eat for free. The downtown area of Las Vegas may be less glamourous than the casino resorts on the Strip. Yet, it does offer some unique entertainment with a more local feel.

Shoppers can find a free bus to the Las Vegas North Premium Outlets. Single visitors can have the place to themselves early in the evening on weekends.
Back on the Strip, Sin City lives up to its reputation. Business card ads for working girls are passed out on the street. Nevada legalized recreational use of marijuana in 2017. If you are single and have a vice, it can be fully exploited at this travel destination.
